Indie Pleas: Indie game crowd funding roundup for September 20, 2013
Hyper Light Drifter is a 2D Action RPG in the vein of the best 8-bit and 16-bit classics, with modernized mechanics and designs on a much grander scale. Visions for this game have been fluttering in my skull for ages; something dark and fantastic, with giant forests to navigate, huge floating structures to explore, deep crumbling ruins to loot, massive throngs of enemies to rend, and behemoths both flesh and mechanical to overcome. I want it all to be as beautiful as possible, forging color with the dark and eerie wastes and intimidating landscapes. It plays like the best parts of A Link to the Past and Diablo, evolved: lightning fast combat, more mobility, an array of tactical options, more numerous and intelligent enemies, and a larger world with a twisted past to do it all in.
Flying a routine mail delivery in the Northern wilderness, bush pilot William Mackenzie witnesses mysterious lights flaring across the sky. Suddenly, his trusty DeHavilland Beaver loses power and crashes into the dense mountain forest below. Stranded far from the closest human habitation -- lost, wounded, alone, and with wolves circling -- Mackenzie will have to quickly master basic wilderness survival skills if he's to last long enough to understand what he just witnessed, and how his world has just changed. And that's only the beginning. Welcome to The Long Dark, the inaugural title from Hinterland, a new independent game studio comprised of veteran developers from the triple-A game industry.

SumoBoy has no one and nothing; he’s a chubby orphan who is almost constantly picked on, put down and over-looked. He has no real home or identity. He has no idea who his parents are or where he comes from. What’s an unfortunate child like this to do? Why, just make it all up, of course! While SumoBoy’s real/external life is dull, drab and somewhat meaningless, his interior life, the life he lives in his mind, is rich and adventurous. Now that he is older and able to fight, SumoBoy has been receiving mental/dream messages from his mother, the captive Princess. He must find the courage within him; he must channel the fighting spirit of his father and release her from under Kurai Kami’s evil thumb. SumoBoy must release the Four Elements of the Earth (wind, water, fire and earth) from the control of Kurai Kami to fully restore his mother’s power and then they can face Kurai Kami together.
The Steam Squad single campaign will see the player taking part in the conflict of three superpowers. Take on tactical challenges with your 6 to 12-men squad while playing a role of the crew leader. Your squad consists of the ordinary soldiers, not elite fighters, and action mostly takes you to the front lines. Therefore, as a result of each missions squad suffers considerable losses. Swap characters to suit the situation, speed through the stage as Tay, or power through as her robot guardian. Find armor upgrades and power-ups to aid your fight. To form a tactical group before the mission there are three classes of soldiers varying in types of weapons. Each class has a selection of primary and secondary weapons. There will be machine guns, portable artillery, sniper rifles, grenades, medkits and more. Light infantry can also use field machinery such as tanks, cars and stationary artillery. There are three fractions to be featured in the game, corresponding to the three superpowers. The story will unfold through six consecutive campaigns.
The Ship is floating dead in space, adrift in the interstellar void. In zero-gravity you navigate its haunting, labyrinthine corridors. Through flickering terminals you bring electric subsystems back to life. Hidden ciphers and encrypted secrets tease the periphery of your senses. Vivid interactive memories of your past reveal why you're even aboard this vessel. What kind of disaster brought your original mission to a standstill? What is the significance of the word "Emerald"?
My son loves garbage trucks. I tried downloading every Garbage Truck game in the app store but none of them held my son's interest for more than five minutes. The trucks in those games were flat and cartoonish. He actually preferred watching youtube garbage-trucks videos over playing the games. I desperately searched for a truck game that married video realism with interactivity, but it didn't exist. Luckily for me, I know a genius FX Technical Director who said he could build it. And he did. He created a realistic, player controlled, touch based, 3D garbage truck. The truck has a fully functioning arm that reaches out, picks up and dumps trash. The game comes with multiple street scenes, view angles and challenge levels. There's even a town for the garbage truck to drive around in. What began as a quest to find the perfect game for my son has led to us developing a unique game playing experience. Something too good not to share with everyone. But we'll need your help in order to do it. We're nearly there! We just need to finalize and debug game-pay. Please help us finish our game and share our project with friends who have kids. The game is perfect for kids aged two to seven, people who love trucks and techies interested in seeing where art meets technology.
Gravity, orbits, black holes, wormholes, meteors... lasers?! With gameplay that's easy to learn, but hard to master, we challenge you to become masters of gravity and planetary physics. Luna's Wandering Stars lets the player control moons to absorb and collect asteroids throughout the solar system. Ever since Pluto lost her status as a planet, she's been feeling down. Luna, the goddess of the moons, makes a promise to change Pluto's destiny, but only if they can solve other planets' problems first. Upon finishing the story of Pluto’s journey, you will become a master of planetary physics! In addition to the single player, this game will give you the tools to create and share your very own levels. Take a look at the Level Editor & Online Sharing section for more info.
First off, from everyone here at Betwixt Games, thank you for stopping to take a look at Max Impulse: the insane, topsy-turvy, anti-gravity racing game set a hundred years in our future. While there have been great games in this genre, (F-Zero, anyone?) we wanted to experiment with it even further as it allows us to create extraordinary levels for the player. Want to race on an active volcano? Sure, why not. How about an asteroid field formed from a blown-up moon? You got it! For a small team starting out, we really want to push the boundaries of what we're capable of while still retaining that little spark that independent developers have - that spark that makes a project feel special...but we really could use some help.
